Elbuchel Sadang

Executive Director, Palau Conservation Society

Elbuchel Sadang is a respected leader with a distinguished career spanning finance, management, education, and conservation, dedicated to the sustainable development of the Republic of Palau. He has an extensive background in public service, holding positions at the local, regional, and international levels. Throughout his career, he is recognized for his steadfast leadership, particularly in bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to work toward a common goal.

Currently serving as the Executive Director of the Palau Conservation Society (PCS), Mr. Sadang has been instrumental in securing the organization’s financial stability. He previously led PCS from 2010 to 2013 and has served on its Board of Directors for over a decade, including as Treasurer.

Mr. Sadang served as the Minister of Finance for the Government of Palau for 16 years and as Director of Treasury for 6 years, overseeing national financial policy and economic development. Prior to this, he spent 14 years at the Micronesia Occupational College (now Palau Community College), advancing from Accountant to Dean of Business, and ultimately serving as Vice President of Administration from 1980 to 1994. He also worked in the Trust Territory Government from 1978 to 1980, further developing his expertise in financial stewardship.

A committed public servant, Mr. Sadang has held leadership roles and served on numerous boards and commissions in both government and non-government sectors. Notably, he served as a member and later Chairman of the Micronesia Conservation Trust, alongside other key organizations shaping the future of Palau and the Micronesian region.

Mr. Sadang is actively involved in his community in Ngaraard State, where he holds the traditional title of Chief of Choll County, Ngirameketii, and serves as a member of the Ngaraard State Legislature.

Passionate about Palau’s economic and environmental resilience, Mr. Sadang continues to drive strategic initiatives that ensure the sustainability of both institutions and natural resources.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Grand Valley State University in 1978.
