Notable topics that were discussed this year include gender, innovation in climate change adaptation, and an introduction of the Adaptation Fund’s Technical Evaluation Reference Group (TERG).
MCT is currently implementing the "Practical Solutions for Reducing Community Vulnerability to Climate Change in the Federated States of Micronesia" project funded by the Adaptation Fund to support protected areas and coastal communities in the FSM. Photo: Members of the AF Secretariat and representatives from NIEs across the world are gifted Pohnpeian marmars during the seminar. Countries in the photo include (but are not limited to): Uganda, Armenia, Costa Rica, Antigua and Barbuda, Peru, Romania, Belgium, Uganda, Senegal, Cook Islands, India, Finland, the US and Canada. The program, taught by United States Forest Service (USFS) professionals, included all aspects of maintaining a nursery from design and layout to seedling care.
The Micronesia Conservation Trust, with funds from its USFS grant Professional Internships in Pacific Terrestrial Island Ecosystem Management (PIPTIEM) program, supported participants from Palau, Chuuk and the RMI along with MCT's Micronesia Challenge Terrestrial Champion Roseo Marquez from Pohnpei. Four years ago, the Paris agreement was adopted with an important preamble that makes specific references to human rights and gender equality. Yet today, even after the adoption of a gender action plan at COP23, many decision-makers still do not understand how adopting a rights based and gender-responsive approach can lead to more ambitious and effective climate policies. That is why we want to showcase the Gender Just Climate Solutions at the upcoming climate negotiations. Women Engage for a Common Future and the Women and Gender Constituency have launched the fifth edition of the Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards, which will honour – at COP25 – the fundamental contribution of women in the fight against climate change. These awards are made to inspire political decision-makers and funders to develop a more inclusive, fair and effective climate strategies.
Apply now, and you will have a chance to present your initiative during COP25 in Santiago de Chile https://cdkn.org/…/news-gender-just-climate-solutions-awa…/… National Geographic is committed to a better understanding of our planet and an improved ability to conserve our world’s biodiversity. With the goals to 1) find and describe new species, and 2) better understand the patterns of distribution and abundance of poorly known groups of organisms, this RFP will support inventories, surveys, and research expeditions in regions of the world where species discoveries are more likely to occur and where little or no information is available. We encourage proposals for work in any biome.
