The Practical Solutions for Reducing Community Vulnerability to Climate Change in the Federated States of Micronesia project focuses on enhancing ecosystem-based adaptation to increase the FSM communities' adaptive capacity and resilience to climate change through three Components. The first component focuses on a full-functioning and institutionalized system for national and state government support for Protected Areas Network in the four FSM states and to advance state efforts on Marine Protected Areas and fisheries regulations enforcement and compliance. Micronesia Conservation Trust (MCT), The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and Rare are jointly implementing the project, Building Community and Ecosystem Resilience through Gender- focused, Nature-based Solutions. The project is a continuation of a pilot project from TNC that offered a series of workshops on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and successfully supported 10 women's groups in Yap in developing community-based climate change adaptation plans for their respective communities and implementing one NbS action in each community. Blue Prosperity Micronesia (BPM) is a partnership between the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Government and the Blue Prosperity Coalition to support the sustainable growth of marine resources in the FSM. The program is government-led and sets out to optimize ocean uses, protect 30% of the FSM's waters, strengthen fisheries management, and support the development of marine industries. Together, the program partners will develop and legally Learn More>

The GCF project “Climate-resilient food security for farming households across the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)” (SAP020, approved March 2021) is a multi-year project starting in January 2022 and is the first comprehensive national effort to focus on increasing the resilience of FSM’s most vulnerable communities to food insecurity in the face of climate change. The Micronesia Challenge (MC) 2030 extended the original challenge to effectively manage and protect at least 50 percent of nearshore marine resources and 30 percent of terrestrial resources by 2030. This project contributes to the MC, aiming to further build the resilience of Micronesian communities and ecosystems to better withstand the impacts of increasing stressors by expanding the protection of the region's most critical natural resources. The project expands on the work achieved thus far, the notable progress made, and the continuously improving and collaborative science-to-management tools developed under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Cooperative Agreements (CA). Through this project, MCT and its partners continue to build regional capacity to use biophysical and socioeconomic data and evaluation protocols to collect, analyze, and translate coral reef and socioeconomic monitoring results in support of a resilience-based management approach in the region.
